The Henry Family

In 2020, we celebrated Mum’s 80th year. This photo shows “almost” ALL of her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tamanu Beach Resort is a dream that was sown many, many years ago by our father ‘Hugh Henry’. This came to fruition in April 2001, when my brother Michael & his wife Kuraono started "Are Tamanu" Resort. A couple of years passed and another brother Stuart built Manea Beach and when they merged as Tamanu Beach -  Dads dream became a reality.

What is in a Name

In 1839, our ancestor Tetaura Raru was a deacon with the Reverend Henry Royle of the London Missionary Society. He asked the Reverend if he could “borrow” his name and put it on his son. [In those days your fathers first name became your surname]. Tetaura’s son was born Henry Tetaura, he then had a son Tiavare Henry and breaking with tradition named his son…

Albert Royle Henry.

In 1965, Albert our grandfather, became the first Premier of the Cook Islands.

Alberts youngest son, Hugh Henry was our Dad.
